There is some debate as to whether there are actually two bulls here; the mention of a second
bull seems out of place because only one bull is actually offered. It is quite possible to read the text as referring to only one bull, a bull that was second in order, but was the the prize choice for the sacrifice because it was the one that was seven years old—the perfect sacrifice.1
25 That night the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it
