True worship occurs when Christ receives his full due. For he is the perfectly fearless leader. His Father declared to him at critical moments of his ministry, You are my beloved Son.
He clothed his Son with his Spirit. That was enough for Christ to do his work. Though he was the servant who was weak and was despised by men, he did not lack in trust. He did not require signs from God to confirm him in his calling Instead, in contrast to Gideon, Christ went resolutely to Jerusalem, to take on the enemy. And so he suffered, and died for our fears, our insecurities, our distrust. And he won the battle for us. So that now when the Lord looks at us, he does not see our Gideon-like struggles. Instead, he sees the trust and fearlessness of Christ credited to us.
