The term translated as “passion” is rendered elsewhere as “wrath” (e.g., Revelation 14:10). There is an aggression, an anger driving Babylon’s immorality. This aggression and anger are undoubtedly rooted in the fury of the dragon as described in Revelation 12:17. We might say, to be in bed with the devil is a cruel experience.
