A Servant to Serve within the Church

Jude 1:1 (ESV)

1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

We need to assume the posture of being servants of Jesus. Remember Jesus said, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. And so that would mean that in all of our conversations, our actions, and the use of our time, we would think: I am a servant of Jesus Christ. I am here to serve within the body. I am here to look out for the well-being of others. Jude is actually going to write these really strong exhortations, not to the elders of the church, but to the churches themselves. He is writing these things, telling them: do not put up with these false teachers. He is actually writing to members of local churches just like you, and what he is saying is: we have a responsibility to care for one another and the purity of the church of Jesus.1
