Preparing for the final harvest

Revelation 14:14–20 (ESV)

14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand.

If the Son of God does not know the God-ordained time for the final harvest, we certainly cannot figure it out either. We need to have clear in our minds that the Lord of the harvest could return to earth within the next hour to commence his harvest, but also delay for decades or even centuries. Always the command of our Lord in Matthew 24:45–51 is relevant; while we wait (and pray!), we continue to do faithfully the tasks that our Lord has assigned us.

As harvest time approaches, we see farmers preparing their equipment for the coming task. In the days and weeks that follow, we see them hard at work with the actual task of harvesting. What we see in the fields around us form God-given reminders that Jesus Christ has prepared his sickle and stands ready to begin harvesting the earth. That in turn means we do well to ensure that we are ready to be harvested.
