In what geographic region were the exiles dispersed?

1 Peter 1:1 (ESV)

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia were five districts in the province of Asia Minor. On today’s map that would be the north-western corner of Turkey. Interestingly, there were more districts in that region, even within the circle comprising these five (e.g., Phrygia, Pisidia). That these five are mentioned would suggest that the Christians Peter addressed lived in these districts and not in the unmentioned ones. Christians may have been widely distributed (scattered!), but they were not in every town or district.
