What does the word “psalm” mean?

Psalm 3:1 (ESV)

1 O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;

This is the first time the word psalm is used in the book of Psalms. A psalm is a song accompanied by musical instruments. It is written to be sung with musical accompaniment by the congregation.
