Solomon exclaims in his enthusiasm that God will always dwell in that place. However, that is not right. Unfortunately, God later leaves the temple because his people continued to serve other gods. The prophet Ezekiel sees the glory of God disappear from the temple (Ezekiel 11:23). And when the temple was empty, it could be set on fire which is what the enemies did. But that was not the end. God’s love is too great for that (compare Ezekiel 43:41). He wants to live with his people. And in the New Testament we read how his love makes the intimate connection of the new covenant.
13 I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.”
