John the Baptist is introduced suddenly by all the gospel writers, except Luke. Luke told some things about the birth of John. After a lapse of time, he is introduced by the writers as preaching in the Desert of Judea near the Jordan, baptizing at Aenon (Matthew 3:1–12; Mark 1:1–8; Luke 3:1–19; John 3:23).
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
