What does 2 Peter 1:5-11 reveal about what God does in and through me (the work of the Holy Spirit)? By his Spirit, Christ empowers me to live a godly life in this world. In his Word he reveals to me what the virtues are that he would have me walk in, and by his Spirit he makes me strong to exercise those virtues. His Spirit also reminds me that only those who make every effort to pursue godliness will receive a rich welcome and that those who forget and ignore God’s truth will stumble and fall. In this he motivates me to make diligent effort to grow in godliness, not because my salvation lies in my works, but because I know that those chosen by God will make an effort to obey him and respond to what he commands. Believers hear God’s warning and respond with obedience. Unbelievers hear the same warning and ignore it.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,
