The Lord makes sure that Nebuchadnezzar does not give in. In this way he wants to make sure that it is clear that the wisdom of the gods and the people associated with them amounts to nothing. The wisdom of Babylon is simply hot air and empty talk, while the wisdom of Jerusalem, of the Lord, is real wisdom. The Lord thus wants to expose the foolishness of the devil versus the wisdom of the Spirit.
8 The king answered and said, “I know with certainty that you are trying to gain time, because you see that the word from me is firm
