Jair’s sons had thirty cities, called “Havvoth-jair,” which literally means, the “villages of Jair.” These were cities he had earlier acquired (Numbers 32:41; Deuteronomy 3:14), and now gifted to his sons, regardless of whether or not they were suited to look after these cities. So there is a real aura of royalty, not to mention nepotism.
4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys, and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
