The third word is “parsin.” Daniel translates this word on God’s authority with peres
. The word parsin
has the meaning of peres
, i.e., to divide. God’s judgment on Belshazzar and the Babylonian Kingdom is that this kingdom is given to two other nations. The Medes and the Persians positioned at the gates of the palace will have power over the kingdom. The house of Belshazzar and the Babylonians will lose their power and greatness. They will be humiliated. The armies of the Medes and Persians will also take from him that last portion over which Belshazzar still rules. He will see and experience that the Lord will not be mocked. Belshazzar’s days are numbered. He will see that the Lord rules according to his word and plan.
28 Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
