2 Peter 1:12–15 (ESV)

12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.

Knowing that his death is near, Peter seeks to encourage believers by reminding them of the truth which they already know. He wants them to persevere in this truth even if it should be challenged by heretics and even if he should die. The truth of the gospel alone can bring people to a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:11). It is thus a truth that must not be forgotten (see 2 Peter 1:9) but remembered (2 Peter 1:12–15).
