How Revelation 16 links to what follows

Revelation 16:1–21 (ESV)

1 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

Revelation 16 tells us what happens globally in God’s creation when seven angels pour out his wrath on man’s sin upon that creation. With the pouring of the seventh bowl into the air (Revelation 16:17–21), John sees how man’s achievements (cities) disintegrate—including the demise of Babylon the great. In the next two chapters John is shown detail of what happens to Babylon the great (Revelation 17:5) and why.
