2 Peter 1:16–21 (ESV)

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Where false teachers doubted the future return of Jesus Christ—dismissing such claims as myths and stories—Peter makes it clear that his message is trustworthy. He was there to see Christ transfigured on the mountain. The testimony of the prophets is true. Christians are thus right to look forward to the coming of God’s King and live in the light of that future reality.
