Sensuality or shameful ways refers to behaviour lacking moral restraint, which is often sexual in nature. The same term is used by Peter to describe the conduct in Lot’s day (2 Peter 2:7) and we know that sexual licence was a distinguishing mark of the heretics' teaching and behaviour (2 Peter 2:10, 2 Peter 2:12, 2 Peter 2:14; 2 Peter 3:3). In a world where sexual license was the norm, Christians needed instruction (Ephesians 4:17–19; 1 Thessalonians 4:3–8; 1 Peter 4:3) and warnings about consequences of persevering in this sin (1 Corinthians 6:9–11; Galatians 5:19–21).1
2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
