1. Matthew 3:17 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is so significant about the Father’s use of the term “Son” here?

Matthew 3:17 (ESV)

17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

This word here points to an intimate and unique relationship with the Father (John 1:18). Jesus spoke of “my Father” in relation to himself and of “your Father” in relation to the disciples.
