Daniel 6:4 (ESV)

4 Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.

The 120 satraps and the two other officials somehow hear of Darius’ plan for Daniel. They are united in their opposition to this plan. How can they ensure that Daniel does not become the prime minister? The conspirators are looking for some negative aspect in Daniel’s conduct. They set up an investigation to find something that they can pass on to the king that would ensure that Daniel’s promotion does not go through as planned. They are looking for something that would make Daniel unfit for it. But they cannot find anything. Daniel does his job well and with extreme loyalty. Even as a person he appears to act with great integrity. What we read here makes one think of what happened at the trial of the Lord Jesus. People had decided that Jesus had to die but they could not find a real accusation.

It is the devil who is behind this whole scheme. He is trying to incite people in this direction. He stirs them up against Daniel and against the people of God. He is also the one who causes these people to keep looking for negative things somewhere in Daniel’s life. When they come together after much searching and digging, their conclusion is that they cannot find anything.
