Daniel’s opponents come back to remind Darius that this is a law of Medes and Persians. The king cannot change this. He has to carry out this law. Darius realizes that he is unable to do otherwise. No matter how his heart is bleeding, he still has to give the order to throw Daniel into the den of lions. It seems that here the kingdom of the devil has overcome the kingdom of God.
15 Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed.”
