Luke 6:24 (ESV)

24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

You may think that you have it all together spiritually, “being rich,” but then you have comfort only for a moment, after which it stops. Rich people may be more likely to have such a spiritually proud and independent attitude, but this is not inevitable; there are also materially rich people who are dependent on Jesus. Jesus does not bring a social gospel. This verse is about the desire to be independent of him and thinking that you can live separate from him.
