1. Mark 16:7 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the significance of Jesus going ahead of them into Galilee?

Mark 16:7 (ESV)

7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”

Jesus had promised his disciples on the night before his death that he would see them again in Galilee (Mark 14:28). The young man in white tells the three women to share this message with the disciples. The disciples (along with the three women at the tomb) did not believe Jesus’ promises that he would be raised from the dead (Mark 8:31; Mark 9:31; Mark 10:33; Mark 14:28). However, now that they hear he has been raised from the dead, they are being asked to act in faith and to go meet Jesus in Galilee as he promised. They are being called to trust in his promises.
