1. Zephaniah 1:13 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Where else can the horror of losing houses and vineyards be seen?

Zephaniah 1:13 (ESV)

13 Their goods shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them.”

Losing the reward that normally comes from building houses and planting vineyards is a tragedy! This tragedy is none other than the covenant curse on disobedience; see Deuteronomy 28:30, Deuteronomy 28:39; Amos 5:11; Micah 6:15. Earlier, by his gracious provision to his people, God gave for their enjoyment houses, wells, cities, and vines that they had not produced. But to stand under God’s curse would mean they would be robbed of all their possessions.1
