1. 2 Peter 3:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Peter mean by calling believers "beloved"?

2 Peter 3:14 (ESV)

14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.

The use of this term in the early church was a marker of the new family relationship that exists amongst believers in Christ who call on one Father (Acts 15:25; Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 4:17; Ephesians 5:1).1 Peter uses this term repeatedly in the final section of his letter to distinguish between believers and false teachers.
