During Peter’s era Scriptures
was a term used to refer to the divinely inspired writings of the Old Testament (2 Peter 1:20–21; Luke 24:27, Luke 24:32, Luke 24:45; John 5:39; Romans 1:2; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Galatians 3:8, Galatians 3:22; 1 Timothy 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 2:6). However, the word was also used to include the teaching of Jesus (1 Timothy 5:18; cf. Matthew 10:10; Luke 10:7). Peter now goes one step further by placing the letters of Paul in the same category.1
16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
