1. Judges 10:11–12 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the logic behind the order of the list of enemies from whom the Lord delivered Israel?

Judges 10:11–12 (ESV)

11 And the LORD said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines?

The list begins with Egypt, which is a reference to the exodus, and then moves to the Amorites (a reference to the defeat of Sihon and Og, Numbers 21:1–35), the Ammonites (Ehud), the Philistines (Shamgar), the Sidonians (Barak and Deborah), the Amalekites, and the Maonites (a reference to the Midianites, in the time of Gideon).1
