1. Malachi 1:10 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Do the words I have no pleasure in you" nullify God’s earlier declaration of love for Israel?

Malachi 1:10 (ESV)

10 Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.

In Scripture, love is not so much a feeling one experiences as an attitude that one chooses. According to his grace, God chose to love Israel. God’s love for Israel is an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), but this does not deny the fact that at times God was deeply displeased with his faithless people.
