These words are identical to those of Revelation 17:8, and thus serve to put the concept into bold print. Destruction
is a reference to eternal ruin. It is instructive to note that the Septuagint translation of Proverbs 6:32 uses the very same Greek word as appears here to describe the consequence of adultery: “He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.” The beast is so complicit in its mistress’ prostitution that it shall receive the same penalty as the kings who seek their satisfaction in her.
