In Revelation 13:7 the beast made war on “the saints” (Revelation 12:17). But by seeking to compel the saints to commit spiritual adultery (idolatry, seeking their sense of well being from created things instead of the Creator), the beast and the kings are ultimately attacking the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. The Bridegroom is here called “the Lamb” to make the link to Revelation 5:1–14. The Lamb is the one who was slain on Good Friday and who by his blood ransomed a people for God. As a result, the Lamb was found worthy to take the scroll from God’s hand and cause God’s plan for history to happen. The validity of his work on Good Friday (and hence his right to take the scroll) is the object of their combined attack. For the redeemed this attack is horrifying because their Saviour himself is besieged! It is at this point in the chapter that the suspense rises to its maximum!
14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
