This is the only time in the book of Revelation that an angel is described with the word “glory.” That term is customarily reserved for God alone. The term itself captures the notion of God’s weightiness, the imposing feel of his commanding presence. That this overwhelming weightiness is attached now to this angel indicates how directly connected this messenger is to his Sender; in this angel God himself shines his light into his restored world. See also Ezekiel 43:2.
1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory.
