1. Genesis 4:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does the words “fugitive” and “wanderer” indicate?

Genesis 4:14 (ESV)

14 Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”

Cain envisions the rest of his life. The usage of the words fugitive and wanderer indicate the horror of man’s life without God: no rest. Idols always demand more: money, alcohol, drugs, sex, power… There is no life more terrible than a life without God.
