1. Genesis 4:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Cain reveal about himself by saying that whoever finds him will kill him?

Genesis 4:14 (ESV)

14 Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”

Always on the run (from the avenger of blood, perhaps his own father or other brothers). The killer fights for his own skin. He would still like to live, even though he did not grant that to his own brother… Here Cain must ask for help. You cannot survive as a lone person in life. Even the most brutal man knows deep in his heart that there is a power above him. Sooner or later, you have to ask him for help and bow your head, willingly or unwillingly. Cain chooses unwillingly and with it his own downfall. A man to feel deeply sorry for.
