Daniel 11:12 (ESV)

12 And when the multitude is taken away, his heart shall be exalted, and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.

The Egyptian king exalts himself. He is proud of himself. He is also someone who is quickly satisfied. He is not one who aspires to conquer a very large area, but he wants to be safe in his own country. He achieves a very great victory. Tens of thousands from the north are killed in this war. The road to the north lies open to him. Yet he does not strengthen himself and does not want to add the kingdom of the north to his own kingdom. This is because he is so easily satisfied, and because his life is only about his own pleasures. He simply wants to live a very prosperous and comfortable life in his own country. After the victory he quickly settles the peace and returns to his own country.
