The victory for Antiochus III is so great that he is free to do whatever he wants. The consequence of his victory is such that the glorious land,
i.e., Israel, also comes into his power: the country that overflows with milk and honey under God’s blessing. It certainly is not good news for God’s land and the people to end up under the power of this king. The northern king will bring about destruction there. The devastation caused by him will be clearly felt by God’s people in God’s land.
16 But he who comes against him shall do as he wills, and none shall stand before him. And he shall stand in the glorious land, with destruction in his hand.
