Set apart at birth to glorify God

Exodus 2:2 (ESV)

2 The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

Not only Moses’ mother but God himself had set Moses apart as special right from his birth. This revelation helps us to understand that it was possible for God to oversee history in such a way that our Saviour Jesus Christ was not born randomly, but at God’s appointed time (Galatians 4:4; see also Psalm 71:6). All who belong to Christ can know that they too were known to God before they were born. That is why when we baptize our children we say that we believe they are sanctified in Christ. Just as Moses was set apart in anticipation of the Saviour Jesus Christ, so we also are set apart and brought into the world to glorify God in his kingdom. What a blessing to know that as covenant children we are born beautiful and special, not only in the sight of our parents but also in the sight of God.
