Mark 2:10–11 (ESV)

10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he said to the paralytic

Jesus calls himself the Son of Man. This is striking. He just did something divine—he forgave sins, yet as a man he continues to stand before them. He is therefore both God and man at the same time. That is how he does his work on earth.

Jesus shows that as a human being he can forgive sins because he comes from God. He shows his divine lineage by healing this man with his power. Thus, the healing is proof that he is more than an ordinary man; he is also God and he has the right to set someone free from his sins. This man has divine power.
