The prophetic task of Christians in this world

Psalm 2:1–12 (ESV)

1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

In Psalm 2:10–12, the psalmist is acting like an evangelist. He is proclaiming the good news that there is grace and mercy for sinners, even for those who conspire against the Lord, even for those who have crucified Jesus Christ. They can all find forgiveness in him. Again, we see the grace of God. He is willing to forgive all those who turn to him in faith no matter what they have done! Like the psalmist, we too, as the church, must carry out this evangelistic task. We must warn those around us who conspire against the Lord and his Anointed One. We must also call them to serve the Lord with fear and trembling. We must also call them to kiss the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. This task is too important to neglect. We cannot be content when people are conspiring against the Lord and his Anointed One. We must act, we must warn, we must call them to repent before it is too late, before the Son returns in glory and destroys all who fail to honour him. So we must boldly proclaim that there is still hope for all people—for evil dictators, for persecutors of Christians, for ISIS terrorists, for all those who are trying to cancel Christ out of our culture, and for all those who have turned their backs on the Lord. Through Jesus Christ there is freedom for captives, freedom from sin, freedom from eternal destruction.
