The first chapter of Leviticus spells out various laws regarding three types of burnt offerings. The types are ranked according to the value of the animal. The first category are from the herd (Leviticus 1:3); the second, from the flock (Leviticus 1:10); and the third, from the birds (Leviticus 1:14).
2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock.
