Does “take it to heart” and “lay it to heart” mean the same as “to listen”?
Malachi 2:2 (ESV)
2If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.
Essentially these phrases all point to obedience. But the twofold reference to the heart indicates that more than just outward obedience is required. The repentance and obedience required must be genuine and sincere.
