The knowledge that the priests safeguarded was the knowledge of who God is, what he has done, is doing, and will do for temporal and eternal well-being, and how they are to live before God in gratitude. By seeking instruction from the priests, the people of God receive the knowledge they need to believe in God and to worship and serve him faithfully.
7 For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
