What is noteworthy about the verb behind “I AM”?

Exodus 3:14 (ESV)

14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

The verb that lies behind both the title “I AM” and the name “Lord” is a verb that describes being. We bow in worship before the source of all life and existence, the Creator of heaven and earth, the holy God whose majestic glory extends far beyond our words or comprehension. To describe himself, the Lord uses a verb of being that is not limited to a particular time. He was, he is, and he will be (Revelation 1:4–5). Besides being holy, the Lord is eternal. We can also see from these examples that it belongs to the essence of God that he exists in a relationship with his church on the earth.
