The Lord uses the Chaldeans to chastise his people, and he turns the very instruments of the Devil against his own kingdom. He brings them down to nothing, and chastises them in his wrath and sore displeasure. So behind the phenomenon of this earth, according to God’s Holy Word, is the great conflict between the principalities and powers. A lot of people today would utterly laugh at that idea, that behind things like the famine in Ethiopia is a spiritual battle between the hosts of God’s heavenly kingdom and Satan, the prince of darkness. But this is actually what goes on in this world. For God uses historical events in order to work out his sovereign purpose in the earth. And that is just as true today, as it was on that day when the Lord drove Pharaoh and his forces and chariots into the sea in his awesome power.1
G. I. Williamson
3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
