The order of the burnt offering followed by the peace offering prefigures what Jesus accomplishes on the cross. After making atonement by his death, believers now enjoy peace and fellowship with God. These aspects of the gospel converge at the Lord’s Supper. In Leviticus the worshipper is invited by the Lord to share in the peace offering. Similarly, in the Lord’s Supper the believer is invited to “feast” regularly upon the blood and body of the Lamb of God.
5 Then Aaron’s sons shall burn it on the altar on top of the burnt offering, which is on the wood on the fire; it is a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
