1. Leviticus 4:10 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What do the words “just as” refer to?

Leviticus 4:10 (ESV)

10 (just as these are taken from the ox of the sacrifice of the peace offerings); and the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.

Leviticus 4:10 highlights the parallel features of this sin offering to the peace offering in Leviticus 3:1–17. This parallel reminds the reader that the choice, or best parts of the animals belong to the Lord. The difference between these two sacrifices comes later on in the chapter. While an animal that is presented as a peace offering is eaten, an animal presented as a sin offering is completely burned (see Leviticus 4:12).
