Ezra 7:1–8:36 (ESV)

1 Now after this, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

Ezra is a man of great learning, great piety, and initiative. He is a man who gives all the glory to God. He is visionary and a man of bold faith. He is a great example of the kind of person that God is going to use—the kind of people that we want to be. We want to be students of God's Word. We want to be devoted believers. We want to be people who take initiative; we are not sitting around waiting for things to happen. We want to give all the praise and glory to God when anything good does happen. We want to be thinking in terms of vision for ministry, and inspiring others to put their shoulders to the plough. We want to trust God in all of our endeavours. May God raise up such [people] for our day as well.1
