Why do the crowd shout “Hosanna”?

Mark 11:9 (ESV)

9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

The crowd is shouting: Hosanna!...Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna comes from the (Hebrew text of) Psalm 118:25–26: Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. Hosanna means save us. The crowd addresses this granting well. Jesus is the Saviour. Here Hosanna is used more as a shout of cheer, honouring the King and Messiah.

People recognize that Jesus comes to restore the kingdom of father David.
