1. Mark 11:10 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why is David called “our father”?

Mark 11:10 (ESV)

10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”

The name our father for David is seldom used, much less than we read about father Abraham and father Jacob (who really were fathers of Israel). David made Israel to a kingdom. Now Jesus comes as the Son of David (Mark 10:47–48). In the crowd people also shout: Hosanna to the Son of David (Matthew 21:9). What the crowd is shouting differs in the Gospels. Not surprisingly, people in a multitude shout different things.
