The image of a fruitful tree symbolizes life of the man who is pleased with God’s Word. His life will unfold wonderfully, just like a tree that grows and gives fruit and comes to its intended purpose. You see it in the fall: loaded with precious and wholesome fruit. This is what the man looks like who finds joy in the keeping of God’s commandments.
Will things always go smoothly for such a person? No, that is not what is meant here. Even, and sometimes specifically (!), the lives of God’s children may be hard. Read the book of Job or Psalm 73:1–28. Jesus also plainly says that his followers will experience difficult times (John 15:18–21). And yet, everyone who stays connected to him, the true vine, (John 15:1–8), will bear much fruit
(John 15:5). Yes, he even says, These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full
(John 15:11).
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
