1. 1 Peter 1:3 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why is God described as the “Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”?

1 Peter 1:3 (ESV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

The God whom Israel in the Old Testament had repeatedly extolled (Psalm 41:13; Psalm 72:18; Psalm 89:52; Psalm 106:48) is now connected to Jesus Christ as his Father, and thus is the one who sent his Son into the world in order to provide salvation for sinners (John 3:16). In fact, it is specifically this gift of salvation through Jesus Christ his Son that gives every earthling (sinners all!) reason to “bless” this God.
