Peter explains that it occurred “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Peter will speak further about the means God uses to bring about rebirth in 1 Peter 1:23–25, namely, through the preaching of the Word. In 1 Peter 1:3 he asks his readers to look back on the resurrection of Jesus Christ on that Easter Sunday some years ago. That resurrection had an impact on “us” (Peter and the elect exiles of the Dispersion to whom Peter wrote this letter) so that “we” were delivered from the narrow confines of the womb—“born again”—through Jesus’ resurrection.
